Welcome to Rock Art Australia’s Christmas E-News
Interest in Aboriginal cultural heritage and Australia’s remarkable rock art is growing. These are the oldest ‘libraries’ in Australia and their preservation is paramount. Our annual Science Workshop was held virtually again last month. The views of a group of eminent researchers from within Australia and overseas were canvassed regarding future directions in rock art research, with an emphasis on Indigenous scholarship and partnership. It is the start of an 18-month ‘horizon scanning’ exercise that will include Indigenous rangers, managers and custodians.
We want to thank everyone who has supported Rock Art Australia’s research this year – particularly the Kimberley Visions and Rock Art Dating projects undertaken in partnership with Balanggarra Aboriginal Corporation.
Last week we launched our Rock Art Ambassador Program which is focussed on the Next Generation. There are many people who appreciate the significance of Australia’s cultural legacy and who want to support the custodians of the rock art and the research documenting their history. If you want to learn more about this program, please email us at hello@rockartaustralia.org.au
A big thank you to all our supporters. We wish all our colleagues, friends and supporters a safe and festive holiday season and a happy Christmas.
