Rock Art Australia today announced that its Chief Executive Officer, Samantha Hamilton, has been appointed as the new Director of the South Australian Museum, one of Australia’s leading cultural and scientific institutions.
Samantha joined RAA in 2023 and has led the organisation through a period of national expansion and renewed visibility. During her tenure, RAA has established a national research program, launched a successful lecture, book, and film series across the country, strengthened collaborations with universities, and deepened engagement with Indigenous communities, donors, corporate partners, and research collaborators.
To ensure continuity of leadership, the RAA Board is pleased to confirm that former CEO, Cas Bennetto, has returned as Interim CEO and will guide the organisation through the transition period. The Board is also delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Helen Green as Director of Research, who will lead the national research program and Indigenous engagement portfolio.
Samantha will conclude her tenure at RAA at the end of September 2025.
John Morrison, Chair of RAA:
On behalf of the Board, I congratulate Samantha on her appointment to the South Australian Museum. Under her leadership, RAA has sharpened its strategic direction, fostered new national and community partnerships, and elevated the organisation’s profile across Australia. We are deeply grateful for her contribution. With former CEO Cas Bennetto returning in an interim capacity and Dr Helen Green stepping into the role of Director of Research, RAA is well positioned to continue its growth and impact.
